Punjab Urban Resource Centre (PURC)

Punjab Urban Resource Centre (PURC) was established in October 2001 by a group of individuals comprising development professionals, community activists, architects, sociologists and academics. This idea was pioneered at the Local Government Complex within the Directorate General, Katchi Abadis and Urban Improvement, by Imdad Hussain, Hafiz Rashid Mahmood, and Muhammad Javaid Iqbal Awan— all of them deeply inspired by Arif Hasan, a renowned urbanist, an associate of world fame pragmatist social scientist Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan, and the founder of Urban Resource Centre, Karachi. Therefore, Learning from the lifetime works of Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan, Arif Hasan, Perween Rahman, Anwar Rashid, Tasneem Ahmad Siddiqui, and Father Jorger Anzorena , PURC attempts to understand urban and development-related issues, and with advocacy influences these in the light of sustainable and inclusive development approach.
